Dhuha dua and dua for rizq and sustenance Seeking provisions is part of human life. In fact, we are encouraged to work for our livelihood and fulfill our obligations and responsibilities. Allah says in the Quran Once the prayer is over, disperse throughout the land and seek the bounty of Allah. And remember Allah often so you may be successful. Surah Al-Jumu’ah, 6210 On top of putting the right effort, we should also supplicate to Allah for sustenance and provisions. There are many Dua that we can find in the Quran and Hadith to guide us in our supplications. Besides the Dhuha prayer, we can also recite plenty of other Duas to seek provisions from Allah as it is also recognised as a form of worship. An-Nu'man Bin Bashir reported the Prophet said Du'a supplication is worship. Sunan Abu Daud Although we supplicate to seek sustenance, from this hadith, let us also bear in mind that the overarching intention is to please and worship Allah In pleasing The Provider, Allah will definitely suffice us. Here are some Duas that we can recite in seeking for sustenance 1. Doa Dhuha The Dhuha prayer is often associated by many with ease of sustenance and provisions. In truth, it entails a lot more rewards than sustenance, such as forgiveness, repentance and protection from heedlessness as seen in multiple narrations regarding it. One such narration that depicts its significance is by Abu Hurayrah who said My beloved companion the Prophet advised me to do three things To fast three days every month, to offer the Dhuha prayer, and to offer the Witr prayer before sleeping. Sahih Al-Bukhari The time of Dhuha begins after the sun fully rises which is about 20 mins after Syuruq 730 am and until the Azan for Zuhur prayer. We can perform the 2-rakaat Dhuha prayer during this time. As we are encouraged to continue supplicate to Allah after our Dhuha prayer, you may recite any sincere Dua from the heart. If you are unsure of what to supplicate, you may also supplicate a Dua that is encouraged by our teachers to be read after the Dhuha prayer Allahumma innad-dhuha-a dhuha-uka, wal-baha-a baha-uka, wal-jamala jamaluka, wal-quwwata quwwatuk, wal-qudrata qudratuk, wal-’ismata ismatuk. Allahumma in kana rizqi fis-sama-i fa-anzilhu wa-in kana fil-ardhi fa-akhrijhu, wa-in kana ba’eedan faqarribhu, wa-in kana mu’assiran fa yassirhu, wa-in kana haroman fa-tahhirhu, bihaqqi dhuha-ika wa-baha-ika wa jamalika wa quwwatika wa qudratika. Allahumma atini ma ataita ibadakas-soliheen O Allah! The brightness of the morning Dhuha is Your Brightness, and the radiance is Your Radiance, and the beauty is Your Beauty, and the might is Your Might, and the power is Your Power, and the protection is Your Protection. O Allah. If my sustenance is in the Heaven, then send it down to me, and if it is in the earth, then extract it for me, and if it is far away, then bring it closer to me, and if it is filled with challenges, then ease it for me, and if it the means is forbidden, then purify it for me. By Your Brightness, Radiance, Beauty, Might and Power, O Allah, grant me of what You granted Your righteous servants. 2. Dua for sufficient sustenance 'Ali reported A slave who had made a contract with his master to pay for his freedom, came to me and said "I am unable to fulfil my obligation, so help me." He said to him "Shall I not teach you a supplication which the Messenger of Allah taught me? It will surely prove so effective that if you have a debt as large as a huge mountain, Allah will surely pay it for you. Say اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ Allahumm-akfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadhlika 'amman siwaaka O Allah! Grant me enough of what You make lawful so that I may dispense with what You make unlawful, and enable me by Your Grace to dispense with all but You. Sunan At-Tirmizi 3. Dua for guidance, piety, chastity and contentment 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud reported The Prophet used to supplicate اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى، وَالتُّقَى، وَالْعَفَافَ، وَالْغِنَى Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda, wat-tuqa, wal-'afafa, wal-ghina O Allah! I beseech You for guidance, piety, chastity and contentment. Sahih Muslim 4 Dua for forgiveness, mercy, protection and sustenance Tariq said A man came to the Prophet and said to him "O Messenger of Allah! What shall I say if I want to pray to my Rubb?" He said, Say اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْلِي، وَارْحَمْنِي، وَعَافِنِي، وَارْزُقْنِي Allahumma-ghfir lii, warhamnii, wa 'afinii, warzuqnii O Allah! Forgive me, have mercy on me, protect me and provide me with sustenance. Sahih Muslim 5 Dua for goodness in this world and in the Hereafter Ibn Mas’ud reported One of the supplications of the Messenger of Allah was "Allahumma inni as'aluka mujibati rahmatika, wa 'aza'ima maghfiratika, was-salamata min kulli ithmin, wal-ghanimata min kulli birrin, wal-fawza bil- jannati, wannajata mina-nar O Allah! I beg You for that which incites Your Mercy and the means of Your forgiveness, safety from every sin, the benefit from every good deed, success in attaining Jannah and deliverance from Fire” اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مُوجِبَاتِ رَحْمَتِكَ، وَعَزَائِمَ مَغْفِرَتِكَ، وَالسَّلَامَةَ مِنْ كُلِّ إِثْمٍ، وَالْغَنِيمَةَ مِنْ كُلِّ بِرٍّ، وَالْفَوْزَ بالْجَنَّةِ، وَالنَّجَاةَ مِنَ النَّارِ Allahumma inni as'aluka mujibati rahmatika, wa 'aza'ima maghfiratika, was-salamata min kulli ithmin, wal-ghanimata min kulli birrin, wal-fawza bil- jannati, wannajata mina-nar O Allah! I beg You for that which incites Your Mercy and the means of Your forgiveness, safety from every sin, the benefit from every good deed, success in attaining Jannah and deliverance from Fire. Allahumma Series Dua 4 اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَىAllahumma inni as’alukal-huda, wat-tuqa, walafafa, wal-ghinaO Allah I ask you for guidance, for piety, for modesty and self-sufficiency. Abdullah bin Masood RA reported that Prophet Muhammad saw used to supplicate this dua. اللهم إني أسألك الهدى، والتقى، والعفاف، والغنى Sunan Ibn Majah 3832 / This dua is one of the most comprehensive and beneficial duas, because it includes asking Allah for well-being with regards to both the religion and the Huda is beneficial knowledge, At Tuqa is piety or righteous action and leaving what Allah and his Messenger saw has forbidden, and this is asking for correctness and wellbeing of person’s religion. Al Afafa is wellbeing and safety, and Al Ghina is contentment and sufficiency which comprises of, being saved from the harms of the creation and that the heart is not attached to precisely, this dua is very comprehensive, as it contains all the things which any person wants. This dua is divided into 4 parts in which we ask Allah for Al huda means hidayat or guidance,• “Indeed, the only guidance is Allah’s guidance”. Surah Anaam 671• “Whoever follows my guidance shall neither go astray nor fall into distress and misery.” Surah Taha 20123• “While as for those who accept guidance, He increases their guidance and bestows on them their piety “. Surah Muhammad 4717• “This Quran is a clear statement to all the people and guidance and instruction for those conscious of Allah.” Surah Al Imran 3138So, from above Quranic verses hidayat is from Allah and true guidance is to learn from the Quran and hadith. It is because of this hidayat and guidance that we can live our life according to the will of Allah and whatever pleases Him, if he does not have hidayat, we will be lost in this world and will emerge loser in the hereafter, so asking for al huda is of the utmost importance. At Tuqa means piety or taqwa.• “Verily the most honourable of you with Allah is that believer, who has taqwa, verily Allah is All knowing – all aware Surah Hujurat 4913• And whoever fears Allah, He will make for him ease in his matter.” Surah Talaq, 654.Whoever has Taqwa, Allah makes matters easy for him in this world as well as the hereafter. This does not necessarily mean that the person will not face difficulty, but through the blessings of his Taqwa, he is guaranteed ease and the strength to bear these difficulties without losing faith or hope by Almighty Allah. The reward of facing these difficulties will be given by Allah in the hereafter. • Truly Allah loves the Muttaqin. Surah Al Imran, 376From this verse, we can conclude that Allah loves those who are piety that is who does righteous deeds. Taqwa is the source of gaining Allah’s love and blessings. • And whoever fears Allah, He will make for him a way out. Surah Talaq, 652.People who are facing difficulties but remain steadfast in their faith for the sake of Allah, Allah SWT will surely make ways for them to get rid of their problems. Taqwa serves as a divine guard against trials of this world as well as the difficulties of the Akhirah. • Allah only accepts from the people of taqwa. Surah Maeda, 527.People who are Muttaqin Allah loves them and accept their actions and deeds. • Abu Dharr RA said The Messenger of Allah said to me Have Taqwa of Allah wherever you are and follow an evil deed with a good one to wipe it out and treat the people with good behavior. Jam e Tirmazi1987So, from the verses above, it is proved that to live a righteous and pleasing life, we need to have taqwa that is fearing Allah, having complete faith in Him, and thereby getting His love and mercy. These things will encourage us to do righteous deeds. Al-Afaafa means chastity or dignified restrain.• Abu Moosa RA reported that Prophet Muhammad saw said,” whoever guards what is between his jaws and guards his chastity he will enter paradise.”Jam e Tirmazi2408 / • Prophet Muhammad saw said, “if a woman prayed the 5 obligatory prayers, fast in the month of Ramadan, preserves her chastity, and obeys her husband, will be told to enter paradise, from whichever door she wishes.” Sahih Ibn Habban 4252 • It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that The Prophet ﷺ said Faith has seventy odd branches and modesty Al-Haya’ is a branch of faith. Sunnan e Nisai5007Basically, chastity is a virtue in Islam. One needs to be mindful and cautious about it, as it is of utmost importance. Al Ghina means self-sufficiency.• Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah said Richness is not having many possessions, but richness is being content with e Tirmazi2373 / Abdullah bin Amr narrated that the Messenger of Allah said He has succeeded who accepts Islam and is provided with what is sufficient and is made content by Allah. Jam e Tirmazi2348 / we should be satisfied and content with whatever Allah has blessed us with. Only then will we be at beauty of this doa is, we are asking Allah for guidance, piety, and self-sufficiency and all these are important ingredients for a successful life and a victorious hereafter.
